John Lott

John Fowler Lott (Jack), age 88, passed away Monday morning, July 1, 2013, from respiratory failure, a complication of his struggle with Alzheimer’s. Jack was born on January 13, 1925, in Binghamton, NY. He was an only child. After he graduated from High School in 1943, he enrolled in the college Naval ROTC program at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY. As an Ensign he was called to active duty in the Navy in 1945 and assigned to a post as one of the chief engineers on a small ship in the Pacific Arena. After his naval service ended, he returned to Rensselaer to finish his studies and earn his degree in engineering and joining the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity serving twice as President. After graduation in 1948, Jack went to work for IBM in Endicott, NY, and transferred with the company to North Carolina in 1966. He worked his entire career for IBM. While employed by IBM in Virginia, Jack met his wife Mary who was working for NACA (the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics), the predecessor of NASA. They married in 1951 and had 50 years together before her death in 2001. Jack is survived by a daughter Rebecca (Beckey) Lott Carr of Raleigh, NC, a daughter Cathryn (Cathy) Lott Anderson (husband John) of Paoli, PA, and a son John Wesley Lott of Tampa, FL. The family would like to acknowledge and express their gratitude to the many kind staff members at Elmcroft of Northridge for their gracious support during his two years and nine months there in memory care. During his final months he was also served by the wonderful people at Hospice of Wake County. The family would like to say a special thank you to everyone at Hospice who made this time much more comfortable for him with their attentiveness, thoughtfulness, and nurturing.
