David S. Crump

David S. Crump, 65 of Raleigh passed away peacefully at home on September 25, 2014 with his beloved wife Marty and his faithful dog, Banjo close at his side. David was diagnosed with glioblastoma multiforme brain cancer in July of 2011 and he and his wife fought a long and courageous battle with his disease right up until the end. David was born in Catawba County to his parents, Amos Paul and Artie Sue Crump who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his sister, Paula Beth Ribelin. David received his undergraduate degree at UNC in 1971 and his law degree at UNC Law School in 1974. He was hired at the North Carolina Department of Justice by Robert Morgan and he worked closely with Rufus Edmisten for many years. After leaving the Department of Justice, David practiced law in Raleigh where he had many clients in the area that he thought very highly of. He will be remembered for his intelligence and quick wit and his compassion for people who were in trouble and needed his expertise, whether they were clients, friends, or family. David was an avid sailor. He also did lovely leather tooling and work and was the President of the Raleigh Leatherworker’s Guild. David is survived by his wife and companion of many years, Martha “Marty” Crump, brother, John Crump of Raleigh, Nephews Nathan and Tim Ribelin and their families of Texas, his faithful and loving cannine companions Banjo, Reesie Cup and Daisy, Uncles and cousins in Catawba County and by Marty’s family in Guilford and Randolph County. There will be a memorial service and celebration of David’s life at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at Trinity Baptist Church in the Chapel where he and his wife were married and the family will receive in the church parlor after the service. Marty would like to thank the doctors and caregivers at Duke Raleigh Hospital for their wonderful care of David during his final days.
